Quality steel cutting is as much about ensuring a quality finish as it is about supporting health and safety. In particular, air quality is a priority concern in the steel industry.
Metal processing conjures up images of workers in a retro futuristic metal shed, with low lighting, sweltering heat and fine particle dust clouding the air. Yikes!
Thankfully modern steel cutting and metal processing facilities don’t operate like they did in the early industrial era. Reduction of particles and pollutants from our Brisbane steel cutting facility is made easy with air filtration technology.
We are all aware that air pollution can cause serious health problems. Along with the obvious health concerns, poor air quality impacts the environment and the ecosystem around us, leading to a poorer living standard for humans and animals alike.
In short, poor air quality is bad news for employers, workers and the world around us. ShapeCUT takes this issue seriously and strive for the highest standards in air filtration.
If you’ve ever used a vacuum cleaner, you’re already halfway to understanding how air filtration works. A powerful suction system is put in place where it’s needed most, and draws in the air around the entry point.
There, a series of metal mesh filters are positioned to catch particles while allowing clean air to pass through. The particles are either caught onto the filters, or, in a smart air filtration system, sucked out to a separate area where the material can be safely captured, moved or recycled.
The ever-growing factory at ShapeCUT makes extensive use of air filtration systems every day and has been for as long as the devices have been available.
We use the Camfil Gold Series X-Flo system on our workshop floor, as it’s the best in its class and has proven its usefulness with gusto over the years. It expertly handles all kinds of toxic and combustible dusts and fumes, including fine, fibrous and heavy dust loads. When you’re dealing with thousands of tonnes of steel on a daily basis, a heavy-duty system like this is required. It can handle 10,000 cubic metres of air an hour.
Upgrading our old system, the Camfil Farr (pictured above), to Camfil’s gold standard in clean air solutions has improved worker and equipment productivity, minimised energy use and also benefits our team’s health and the environment.
Quality steel cutting means quality health and safety practices. Camfil helps us reach our goal towards becoming a carbon-neutral business. It’s a natural extension to our firm commitment to employee safety, not to mention it also keeps the factory floor as clean as possible too.
