Innovation takes centre stage at the Australian Steel Convention 2016

Representatives from some of the Australian construction and engineering industries’ biggest names, including BlueScope, Arup, OneSteel and Laing O’Rourke, are descending on Melbourne during September for the Australian Steel Convention 2016.

Held from 11-13 September 2016, a wide range of international experts will present around the key industry topics of manufacturing, design and the future of research and development in the Australian steel industry. Plenary sessions include:

• Policy perspectives
• Manufacturing innovation
• Smart building design with steel
• Australian steel, research and development

Victorian Minister for Industry and Employment, the Hon. Wade Noonan will be joining speakers and delegates at the conference to discuss the State’s current infrastructure projects as well as long-term opportunities.

Focussing on specialist industry sectors

The conference includes a gala dinner where the winners of the annual National Steel Excellence Award, National Health and Safety Excellence Award, National Galvanizers Award and the Steel Transport Safety Network Awards are announced.

This year, the Australian Steel Convention is also featuring a number of specialist breakout sessions for industry sectors including manufacturing, distribution, rollformers and detailers as well as a half-day Fabricators Forum.

The Fabricators Forum is a closed session aimed at facilitating more detailed discussion around issues of particular relevance to the steel fabrication sector, such as WHS legislation and workers compensation.
