The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is set to hold its second annual Steel Safety Day on 28 April 2015. The purpose is to promote safety awareness across the entire steel industry, with a strong focus on the five most common causes of injury – falling from heights, moving cranes, moving machinery, falling objects, and gas and asphyxiation.

As part of Steel Safety Day, worldsteel is calling on businesses to carry out a complete safety audit. This year’s focus will be on risks associated with moving machinery, where the primary preventative measure is to isolate, lock and pin all energy sources before accessing machinery to cut steel.

Worldsteel represents worldwide steel producers, national/regional industry associations and research institutes and acts as the focal point for the industry. Steel Safety Day represents worldsteel’s continued commitment to safety and in particular their desire for a zero-accident work environment.
